76 percent walk in within a day

What people actually do after they search.

The stat

Google's own 2016 research, "How Mobile Search Connects Consumers to Stores," found that 76 percent of people who search on their phone for something nearby visit a business within a day, and 28 percent of those searches end in a purchase. It was a thousand-person diary study and it is a decade old, which we say plainly; behavior has only moved further onto phones since.

The idea

Your website matters, but the thing most customers actually see first is your Google Business Profile: the panel with your hours, photos and reviews. If the hours are wrong or the photos are from 2019, that panel is quietly turning people away before they ever taste your food or call your shop.

Try this week

Open your phone, search your own business in a private browsing window, and read the panel like a stranger would. Check three things: hours, phone number, and the first photo Google chose to show. Fix whichever one made you wince.
